My mission as a teacher of fine arts is to develop and teach a program which includes the elements/principles of design, art appreciation, visual awareness and is fundamental to intellectual growth and creative self-expression. My philosophy as an art teacher is to teach my students to take risks with their art, experiment with new mediums and to think globally in new and innovative ways. This type of divergent thinking encourages students to relate visual knowledge to other core subjects and to respond with originality, appreciation, flexibility and imagination.
The teaching of art, as in all subject areas, does not happen by chance. It is the result of thoughtful, careful planning by the art instructor and through the development of district, statewide and national standards. A quality art program develops the whole child: physically, intellectually, emotionally, aesthetically and perceptually. Art provides a means of organizing, integrating and structuring experiences in an individualized way.
I am looking forward to a great school year teaching here at Transfiguration Academy and sharing my enthusiasm for art with all my students. Grades Pre-K to 8th grade will have the opportunity to express themselves in art by learning new techniques while working with mixed mediums. Each class will learn about the elements of art along with the principles in art while creating their masterpieces. Remember, we never rush art:)
